Stretcher Bars

Stretcher Bars which are preassembled but can also be bought individually or in sets of four allowing the artist to build their own bespoke canvas. An artist may choose to use them as an alternative to stretched canvas for many reasons including reduced cost, preference of painting on un-stretched canvas, quality control and the selection of a particular cotton-duck or linen material.

Many artists find relatively cheap stretcher bars are suitable for most artists - from the novice to the more experienced.

Although it is possible to buy handmade high quality stretcher bars the main advantage of having handcrafted frames is the ability to order them in any size you require. Other advantages include superior build quality, strength and durability.
